After a nationwide search, a thorough selection process by the Har HaShem Executive Director Search Committee, and approval by the Board of Trustees, we are thrilled to announce that Alan Friedman will become our Executive Director beginning January 1, 2022. He will work closely with Alan Halpern during this transition.
Alan Friedman comes to Har HaShem with extensive experience in synagogue and Jewish camp leadership. Most recently Alan was the Executive Director of Beth El Synagogue in Durham, North Carolina. Prior to that he has served as Executive Director at Camp Mountain Chai based in San Diego and the URJ’s 6 Points Sports Academy in Greensboro and Los Angeles. He has developed a strong reputation for managing and improving operations, budgeting and finance, recruiting and mentoring talented staff, and developing innovative programming.
Alan is committed to building an inclusive experience for all of our members. He is passionate in his commitment to the Jewish community and continuity. He is excited to join the Boulder community with his partner, Ian (a pediatric nurse), and their two dogs Luna, a five-year-old Australian Cattle dog, and Waffles, a one-year-old Golden Retriever pandemic puppy.
A message from Alan Friedman:
“Ian and I are very excited to move to Boulder and join the Har HaShem community. Throughout the interview process and during my visit to Boulder, I knew Har HaShem was an incredibly warm, caring, welcoming, and inclusive temple, a place that I could easily call home. I look forward to joining Rabbi Fred Greene and the entire staff to continue building on an already thriving Jewish community.”
A message from Rabbi Greene:
“We couldn’t be happier to have Alan and Ian move to our community! Alan is a mensch -- a real, authentic human being. He has the right gifts that our congregation needs right now. He understands Jewish communal leadership, non-profit management, and wants to help us thrive. Welcome Alan and Ian!"
We are immensely grateful for our colleagues on the Search Committee who generously shared their time, talent and wisdom during this process:
